Sean Levey Saturday rides blog: 'A good opportunity to see exactly where he is'

Ladbrokes ambassador Sean Levey shares his thoughts on his rides this weekend at Lingfield in his latest blog.

It’s ended up being a small field here, and I think that’s down to the weather being as it is at the moment; it looks like it’ll be firm ground. The trip is absolutely perfect, though, and he should handle the ground.

It’s a massive step up in grade for him, and the track isn’t the most straightforward. But he’s shown from his win in Southwell that he deserves to take his chance, and this is a good opportunity to see exactly where he is and what he can do over the rest of the year.

Merrimack is a very consistent sprinter and has a nice draw in four here. He’s dominated before, which is a good attribute to have for Lingfield. I suppose it would have been more beneficial to have been drawn higher because it’s always been an advantage to go up that stand-side rail. But he’s always shown pace out the gate, and he’s front-ran on many occasions to win. So hopefully he can jump smart and we can get a nice position on him.
