Leeds considering sacking Daniel Farke days after Premier League promotion

Leeds are reportedly weighing up whether to sack Daniel Farke just days after the German guided the club to Premier League promotion.

Leeds were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 season and have spent the last two seasons in the Championship. However, on April 21, the club confirmed their spot in next season's top-flight by securing an automatic promotion spot.

And now, two days after their place in the 2025/26 Premier League was confirmed, a report has suggested that Leeds are considering sacking Farke, the man who brought them back to England's top division.

The aim for all managers of Championship sides is to get their clubs back into the Premier League, which makes the news of Leeds considering sacking Farke even more surprising.

Farke is one of the most successful Championship managers of all time, having secured promotion to the Premier League on three separate occasions, twice with Norwich and now once with Leeds.

However, it's Farke's record with those promoted sides in the Premier League that has worried Leeds' board, some of who are questioning whether he's the right man to keep them in England's top-flight next season.

It's worth noting that the report from the Daily Mail isn't claiming that Farke is being sacked by Leeds, just that the club is considering making a change and could opt to remove their current manager from his post.

The report states that Leeds are cautious of making a decision that could backfire and not be received well by fans, but the German's record in the Premier League is said to be one that has concerned the American owners.

As noted, whilst Farke is great at guiding teams from the Championship to the Premier League, his record at keeping those promoted sides in England's top-flight leaves a lot to be desired.

Farke's first season with Norwich in the Premier League didn't result in one of the lowest points tallies in the competition's history, but did see his side finish bottom with 21 points.

Norwich stuck with Farke in the Championship and he guided them back into the Premier League, but he only lasted until November of his second season, with just five points on the board after 11 matches.

Considering Farke's hard-to-defend record in the Premier League, it perhaps makes Leeds' consideration of replacing him just after securing top-flight promotion slightly more understandable.

The report states that Leeds aren't expected to sack Farke unless they find a manager deemed to be more suitable to Premier League life.

The man hasn't been found yet, so there's no word on who Leeds may be opting for with regards to their next manager, but it's a decision that won't be taken lightly.

As explained, Leeds' management team is aware that Farke is well liked by the players and fans, so sacking him for a manager who is deemed by them to be of a lower quality could be a move that backfires.

It's worth noting that Southampton are also in the market for another manager, but the man chosen to replace Ivan Juric will be tasked with getting the Saints out of the Championship after they were relegated from the Premier League this month.

The odds on Southampton's next manager have Danny Rohl of Sheffield Wednesday as the odds-on favourite, with Gary O'Neil and Liam Rosenior also in contention.

Back to Leeds, and it's worth noting that Farke still has the chance to win Leeds the Championship this season, one that he'll be eager to do especially if his future is being considerd.

Burnley were also promoted to the Premier League on April 21, but the bookies aren't backing them to go up from the Championship as the league winners, with Leeds being tipped in that market.

The final spot in next season's Premier League will be decided by the winner of the playoffs, with those commencing that the end of the Championship season.

The latest odds have Sheffield United and Sunderland as the two front-runners to secure the final promotion spot, with Millwall viewed as major outsiders by Ladbrokes at this juncture.
