Champions League 24/25: Team of the season so far
Published:
With the Champions League final less than two months away, Ladbrokes looks back through the months and picks its team of the season so far.
From players at the top of the goalscoring charts to defenders keeping everything at bay, this 11 would be a test for any team in the world, with Ballon d'Or favourites and World Cup winners in its ranks.
So without further ado, let's dive into the team and see who has stood out for us in this season's Champions League.
Our Champions League team of the season so far
GK - Yann Sommer (Inter)
In goal for our team of the season so far, it's only right to have the man who has conceded the fewest goals, with Sommer being beaten just once throughout the entire league phase.
Sommer's seven clean sheets are the most of any goalkeeper in this season's competition, and with a save percentage of over 90%, he is the main reason why Inter have been so formidable at the back.
We will give an honourable mention to Aston Villa's Emi Martinez, but after another excellent performance in Inter's quarter-final against Bayern Munich, Yann Sommer has earned the right to be this team's number one.

RB - Achraf Hakimi (PSG)
With PSG among the favourites to win this year's competition, Hakimi is the first of a few players to feature from the French champions, with the right back showcasing why he is considered one of the world's best.
Hakimi's consistently solid performances at the back have helped PSG beat the likes of Man City and Premier League favourites Liverpool in this year's Champions League, and his five assists have been integral in his side's progression to the latter stages of the competition.
CB - William Saliba (Arsenal)
William Saliba has emerged as one of the world's best centre backs over the last couple of years, and his performances in this season's UCL have done his reputation no harm at all.
Defensively, Arsenal have been difficult to breach all season, conceding just three times throughout the entire league phase and keeping six clean sheets so far - with Saliba playing every minute in five of those games.
As the Gunners strive to lift the Champions League trophy for the first time ever, William Saliba's consistency and quality has allowed them to shut teams out with remarkable success - most notably in that stunning 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in the quarter-final first leg.
CB - Stefan de Vrij (Inter)
Alongside Saliba sits Inter's Aleesandro Bastoni, whose defensive prowess has helped Inter progress to the latter stages of the Champions League with little fuss.
The Italian has won almost 70% of his tackles in this season's competition, and with a passing accuracy of over 87%, he has also proven his worth on the ball for Simone Inzaghi's side as they set their sights on a second UCL final in three years.
Front-runners to win Serie A and now favourites to progress from a tricky quarter-final with Bayern Munich, Inter will fancy their chances against anyone - particularly with Bastoni at the heart of their defence.
LB - Nuno Mendes (PSG)
Just like his teammate on the other side, Mendes has had an excellent campaign for French champions PSG, making that left-back position his own.
The Portuguese defender is only 22 years old, but has been effective at both ends of the pitch for PSG this season, scoring four Champions League goals while also winning almost 70% of his tackles, ground duels and aerial duels.
Mendes has featured in 13 of PSG's 14 UCL games this season, forging dangerous partnerships with the likes of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in front of him and battling his way into Ladbrokes' team of the season so far.
CM - Declan Rice (Arsenal)
Into the midfield, and the hero of Arsenal's quarter-final first leg victory over Real Madrid earns his spot - with that match-winning performance against the current UCL holders going a long way to solidifying his place.
Declan Rice has scored four Champions League goals from midfield this season, also picking up a couple of assists as he proves his influence in the attacking third, but Rice's combative nature has also seen him win over 70% of his tackles.
The England midfielder has been a key man for Arsenal both on and off the ball, with excellent dribble success and passing accuracy complementing his ability to win possession back effectively.

CM - Vitinha (PSG)
The third player from France's dominant champions, Vitinha has revolutionised the PSG team alongside Joao Neves, with the two diminutive, Portuguese stars running games and wreaking havoc for opposition midfields.
Vitinha has blossomed against the best teams this season, with ties against Manchester City and Liverpool bringing the very best out of the former Premier League player. Averaging over 100 touches per game and dreaming of a first Champions League triumph, Vitinha has been integral to PSG's success this term.
Not many would've predicted his rise after leaving Wolves - who are currently among the favourites to be relegated from the Premier League - but there couldn't be a team of the season so far without Vitinha.
CAM - Ousmane Dembele (PSG)
In order to accommodate the plethora of excellent attacking options, Ousmane Dembele has been shifted back into our attacking midfield role for the team of the season so far, becoming the fourth and final PSG player to feature.
Dembele has been nothing short of spectacular this season, scoring seven Champions League goals and appearing near the top of the charts for both shots and chances created. The Frenchman seems to have finally realised his incredible potential, striking fear into defences all over Europe.
The former Barcelona man has been a standout player in this season's competition, and is arguably the main reason why the bookies think PSG have such a strong chance of going all the way.
RW - Raphinha (Barcelona)
The player of the tournament so far, Raphinha has lit up the Champions League with 12 goals, seven assists and some breathtaking moments - including a hattrick against fellow quarter-finalists Bayern Munich.
The Brazilian - who is currently the favourite to with this year's Ballon d'Or - is the top scorer and joint-top assister in the UCL this season, helping Barcelona fire their way to 28 goals in just eight league-phase matches.
In a side featuring the likes of Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha's performances have helped Barcelona recapture their fearsome reputation, and there aren't many people who would back against them going all the way.
ST - Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)
In a season where Harry Kane looks set to win his first ever trophy in the form of the Bundesliga title, Bayern Munich's talisman has continued to put in the kind of performances that we got so used to seeing in the Premier League.
The England captain has scored 10 goals in this year's Champions League, also registering two assists, and has been integral in Bayern's victories. The striker scored three goals in the round-of-16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen to see Bayern through, but his all-round game has been equally impressive.
Among strikers, Kane has set the standards for shots, passes, chances created and more, showcasing his influence in all areas of the pitch for Vincent Kompany's trophy-chasing side.

LW - Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid)
Rounding off our Champions League team of the season so far is Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe, who continues to prove his quality year in, year out.
Only Raphinha has scored more non-penalty goals than the French forward in this season's UCL, with Mbappe bagging a hattrick against Manchester City and even notching an assist against last seasons's runners-up, Borussia Dortmund.
The irrepressible forward has already tasted success at both club and international level, and while France are once again among the favourites to win the World Cup in 2026, Mbappe would've been desperate to add the Champions League trophy to his sizeable haul - before losing to Arsenal.
